We are PrincipleDesign,
we design with principle.
Based in Collingwood, we are a boutique creative studio delivering strategic design solutions for clients in the built environment, corporate, community and culture sectors. Our name sits at the core of our purpose; passionate about the power of design to enhance social and environmental impact, we’re here to design with principle.
Every year we devote 10% of our studio hours to undertaking pro bono work, partnering with organisations to bring premium quality design services to organisations in need. Our Not-For-Profit discount and our tailored start-up packages showcase our commitment to balancing purpose and profit. Our mission is to collaborate with change-makers and innovators to build brands, websites and campaigns that make a better world.

Our Team

Sash Fernando
Creative Director
As founding and creative director of Principle Design, I take pride in our purpose to design with principle. I’m a strong believer that great design cannot happen without passion, knowledge and persistence. I continue to be inspired my formative design experience working under Milton Glaser and Michael Beirut of Pentagram design who instilled in me a deep seeded value for designing with purpose. I established Principle Design to be able to practice and honour my value of quality design. Our decade long history has resulted in exposure to an array of clients ranging from local not for profits, to global corporations, as well community institutions in health and education and extensive experience within the creative industry. The diversity of our clients allows us to learn, innovate and engage with the complexity of such varied experiences that continue enrich our practice.

Ruwani Fernando
Studio Manager
As Principle Design’s experienced studio manager, Ruwani is a registered architect with over eight years of industry experience and a diverse career portfolio.
Her time spent working for industry professionals such Mills Gorman and Architectus Melbourne provided her with the opportunity to develop her business skills and explore her creative dexterity, which later prompted her career shift to studio management.
These days, when she’s not working at the studio or pursuing her Masters degree in project management, Ruwani can often be found experimenting in the kitchen. A fantastic cook, she is fascinated by different cuisines and flavour possibilities, and sees cooking as yet another creative outlet.

Awards & Recognition
Whilst we’re honoured to be recognised for excellence in the design industry, it’s the projects that we’re most proud of. Awards are nice but successful design outcomes and happy clients are what brings us the most satisfaction.
